Song Dynasty stone carving now kept in the Zhengzhou Han Stone Carving Museum. It depicts a scene during the Song Dynasty's Chunxi era when a plague struck the banks of Zishui in Yiyang. Despite people's helplessness, believers prayed to the Buddha. After several days of chanting by monks, a white deer appeared at the temple with a grass in its mouth, believed to be a miraculous medicine that cured the plague when consumed. In gratitude, the temple was renamed "White Deer Temple," and the legend of the white deer carrying flowers spread in the Jiangnan region.
